Possessing fully commited the sin of brahmahatya (the murder of a Brahmin) by decapitating Brahma, Bhairava was pursued because of the awful female personification of the sin. The skull of Brahma was nevertheless connected to his hand.

 

आग्नेयां च रुरुः पातु दक्षिणे चण्डभैरवः ।

रणेषु चातिघोरेषु महामृत्यु भयेषु च।।

ॐ ह्रीं दण्डपाणिर्गुह्यमूले भैरवीसहितस्तथा ।
